A New Jersey woman says she and her husband received the coronavirus vaccine last month, but the couple has since tested positive for the virus, with her husband now in critical condition in the hospital.
“I just can’t understand how he became so severe being fully vaccinated. I just don’t understand,” Laura Eugene said of her husband, Francisco Cosme.
Eugene said she, her husband, and their son received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine on March 6 at the Javits Center in Manhattan.
But by April 1, Cosme began to feel ill.
“He started to feel like he had a sore throat, stuffy, his coughing, and then he started to run a fever, started to feel fatigue. He just gets it every day — just kept on getting a symptom,” Eugene said of her husband.
FEDERAL HEALTH AGENCIES CALL TO PAUSE JOHNSON & JOHNSON VACCINE AFTER CLOTTING CASES
Cosme, who is diabetic, tested positive for the virus and is now in critical condition and being treated for pneumonia. His wife and son have also tested positive for the virus.
Eugene said she’s unsure how they were exposed to the virus, as they often stay home and followed coronavirus guidelines after being vaccinated.
“My husband doesn’t go out because I have COPD. We are very limited,” she said.
Cosme’s daughter, Michelle Torres, said that her husband and children are now also quarantining after positive tests. It is unclear if they also received the vaccine.
“We survived the whole year without [the vaccine], doing all the things we are supposed to do — social distancing, washing hands, and masking up,” Cosme’s daughter said of the illness.

“It’s crazy, and we need answers,” Torres said.
The news comes after federal health agencies called for a pause on administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after six recipients developed a rare disorder involving blood clots. The company also recently announced there was contamination at its facility in Baltimore, and millions of doses were deemed no longer viable.
Today FDA and @CDCgov issued a statement regarding the Johnson & Johnson #COVID19 vaccine. We are recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution.
