President Trump has tapped several prominent lawyers to fill deputy secretary positions in his cabinet. All of the nominees require Senate approval.
James Donovan, managing director at Goldman Sachs, has been nominated as deputy secretary of the Treasury Department. During the campaign, Trump frequently attacked Goldman Sachs and other Wall Street banks. Steven Mnuchin, the head of the department, is a former Goldman Sachs executive. Gary Cohn, director of Trump’s National Economic Council, spent more than 25 years at the investment firm.
Brent James McIntosh has been nominated as general counsel for the Department of the Treasury. He served in the White House from 2006 until 2009, first as associate counsel to the president and then as deputy assistant to the president and deputy staff secretary, according to a White House press release.
Eric D. Hargan, who served on the Department of Health and Human Services transition team, has been nominated to serve as deputy secretary of the department.
Sigal Mandelker has been nominated as under secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence. She previously served in senior law enforcement and national security positions at the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security.
J. Christopher Giancarlo has been nominated as chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. He was has been a member of the commission since 2014.
Adam Lerrick has been nominated to be deputy under secretary of the Treasury for International Finance and upon confirmation will be designated as an Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Finance. Lerrick is a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. Trump’s pick to head the FDA, Scott Gottlieb, is also a scholar at the Institute.
Drew K. Maloney has been tapped as deputy under secretary of the Treasury for Legislative Affairs and upon confirmation will be designated as an Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Legislative Affairs. Prior to his nomination, he was an executive for the Hess Corporation.
David Malpass has been nominated as under secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs. He previously served in the George H. W. Bush administration.
