N.C. governor condemns ‘selective hypocrisy’ of PayPal

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory bashed the Internet payment company PayPal in an interview Thursday for scaling back its expansion in the Tar Heel State.

“The selective hypocrisy is outrageous by PayPal when they’re doing business and have headquarters in Singapore, where you can get arrested for chewing gum in public,” the Republican governor told Fox News host Megyn Kelly.

The first-term governor has taken heat from a number of corporations over the past few weeks after he signed into law a bill that requires individuals to use the gender-specific public restroom determined on his or her birth certificate.

Kelly chimed in, mentioning PayPal does business in Saudi Arabia, which kills people who are admittedly gay.

“This is where the corporate elite have to be very careful about getting involved in politics,” McCrory explained. “It’s inconsistent outrage, its selective outrage and they might need to examine their own practices in other states which have the exact same rules as North Carolina does.”

McCrory finished by saying PayPal’s decision ultimately hurts the working people of North Carolina more than any other party or group.

Approximately 21 states have implemented identical rules regarding bathroom choice.
