So, after a brief hiatus from the Wizards due to their lenghty road trip out West and the climax of the college basketball season for Georgetown, I’m getting back into it for the stretch run. At least there’s a lot to play for.
Right. Not exactly, eh?
At least Ryan Wittman, son of Wiz assistant coach Randy Wittman, and Cornell are through to the Sweet 16.
But from afar, there’ve certainly been things happening, some of which have not come as a surprise: 1) Lots and lots of losses. Ten of them in a row now, in fact, the second-longest streak in franchise history. Will that streak end tonight at the Lakers, who’ve won five in a row? 2) Shaun Livingston‘s emergence as point guard, leading to his signing through the end of the season. Of course, the Wizards are 0-3 since he became the starter in place of Randy Foye; 3) Alonzo Gee (7.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg) getting some time and some love, in the form of a second 10-day contract that runs through next weekend. 4) Andray Blatche getting buckets, getting injured, and apparently, not getting paid enough. Seriously? A reminder: the Wizards haven’t won in 3 weeks! 5) Josh Howard getting surgery on his left ACL. The 6-8 month timetable is ticking. Sure, the Wizards like him — at a rate below his team option for next year — but he’s just one of many question marks going into the offseason. 6) Fabricio Oberto getting his heart checked.
Earl Boykins (viral illness) is questionable for tonight.
