School announces death of freshman Adam Pomper
Adam Pomper, a freshman lacrosse player at NCAA champion Loyola, died Monday night near his home in Huntington, N.Y. The school announced his death Tuesday night in a press release, but did not specify the cause. A funeral will be held Saturday in New York.

Pomper’s coach at St. Anthony’s High, Keith Wieczorek, said he was getting “drips and drabs” of information on Pomper’s death, but wasn’t sure of the cause. He said he expects the family will provide a statement on Wednesday.
“He was a wonderful kid from a close, close family,” Wieczorek said. “He was a vibrant, young, athletic kid, always with a warm smile and a great spirit. We’re all trying to come to grips with what’s happened.”
Pomper, a reserve attackman, played in just one game this season. He was the younger brother of former Virginia midfielders Max and Brian Pomper.
“As a coach and father, my heart goes out to Adam’s family and his friends, as we are deeply saddened to learn of his passing,” said Loyola coach Charley Toomey in a statement. “I don’t know that there are words adequate to describe the feelings of loss and grief we feel in the Loyola lacrosse family. We will continue to look to each other for strength as we keep Adam’s family in our prayers.”
