NEW YORK (AP) — Immigrants from 46 countries have been sworn in as U.S. citizens at a ceremony at the New York Public Library.

The 150 new citizens took their oath Wednesday in a room where a copy of the Declaration of Independence in Thomas Jefferson’s own hand is on display.

The library is exhibiting the Declaration to mark the Fourth of July.

Several of the new Americans said the holiday will be special now that they are citizens.

Bernardo Mas (mahs) left Venezuela for the United States 14 years ago.

Mas aid he’s always celebrated Independence Day. But he’ll celebrate it “with more passion” now that he is an official American.

New York Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy told the new citizens to work hard and “love this country like we all do.”
