President Trump was enjoying meatloaf and ice cream at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida when the Pentagon confirmed the United States had killed terrorist leader Qassem Soleimani.
Trump was sitting with friends and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy at the time, according to CNN on Friday. The president only sent one tweet Thursday night after news broke, and it was a picture of an American flag.

Trump’s dinner and dessert were reminiscent to dessert he had in 2017 with Chinese President Xi Jinping when America struck a Syrian airfield. “I was sitting at the table. We had finished dinner. We’re now having dessert. And we had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you’ve ever seen,” Trump said of the event. “And I was given the message from the generals that the ships are locked and loaded, what do you do? And we made a determination to do it, so the missiles were on the way.”
“And I said, ‘Mr. President, let me explain something to you.’ This was during dessert. We’ve just fired 59 missiles, all of which hit, by the way, unbelievable, from, you know, hundreds of miles away, all of which hit, amazing,” the president added.
Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross described the airstrike at the time as “after-dinner entertainment,” adding, “The thing was, it didn’t cost the president anything to have that entertainment.”
