‘You hate American businesses so much’: Dan Crenshaw rips Schumer for refusal to support economic relief bill

Rep. Dan Crenshaw tore into congressional Democrats for voting to kill an economic relief bill Sunday proposed by Republicans in the Senate amid a scramble to assist the public and businesses affected by the coronavirus.

“We will not forget this,” Crenshaw tweeted Monday. “More businesses are closing tomorrow while you peddle this lie.”

The Republican from Texas was responding to a statement from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in which he explained why his caucus refused to vote for the financial relief bill introduced by Republicans.

“We voted no on the McConnell-GOP bill because among other problems it includes huge bailouts without protections for people and workers and without accountability,” Schumer said Sunday. “It shortchanges our hospitals and healthcare workers who need our help.”

Schumer insisted that “these changes need to be made.”

Crenshaw, who describes himself as pro-business and fiscally conservative, said he does not think Schumer’s explanation sufficed.

“You literally stopped a good bill because it *didn’t have enough red tape*,” Crenshaw said. “You hate American businesses so much that you would sacrifice our economy out of pure contempt.”

Lawmakers had hoped to pass the bill, worth nearly $2 trillion, by Monday.
