Director and producer Robert Redford believes his No. 1 cause will be a casualty of the federal budget cuts. “The cuts are going to hurt the environment,” Redford told Yeas & Nays, before being awarded the Conservationist of the Year award from the National Wildlife Federation at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Wednesday night.
The two-time Oscar winner continued, saying that America was in an economically troubling time and that certain measures need to be taken, “but we better get the truth on what has to happen and not some ideological spin.”
Jayni Chase, the wife of comedian Chevy Chase, was also honored for her work as an environmental activist. When we asked Chevy Chase how involved he was with his wife’s efforts, he responded in typical comedic fashion: “Well, I’m here aren’t I?” he said, then turning more serious. “I provide for my family,” he said. “And part of that is providing for whatever Jayni needs and wants for her work.”
The event marked the National Wildlife Federation’s 75th anniversary.
