The force is strong with Michelle Obama.
The first lady will welcome children of military families to the White House next Friday for a special screening of the much-anticipated “The Force Awakens,” the newest installment in the long-running “Star Wars” franchise set to be released next week.
As part of Joining Forces, an initiative that supports service members, veterans and their families, the children will join her to watch the film in the White House Family Theater.
The event is closed to press.
President Obama recently had a chance to meet with the creator of “Star Wars,” George Lucas, who was in Washington last weekend for the Kennedy Center Honors, where he was recognized for his contribution to American culture through the arts.
“Think about how many children have been raised, at least in part, by George Lucas,” Obama said at the ceremony. “Think about how many young people searching for their place in the universe have thought to themselves, ‘If a kid from a Tatooine moisture farm can go from bulls-eyeing womp rats in his T-16 to saving the galaxy, then maybe I can be something special too?'”
