Clinton bests Sanders on debate-night Twitter mentions

For the first time since November, Hillary Clinton was talked about by more than half of Twitter users during a Democratic debate.

Fifty-six percent of people tweeting about the #DemDebate mentioned former Secretary of State Clinton, compared to 44 percent for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. During the last debate, Sanders had 47-42 advantage, while recently-departed candidate Martin O’Malley had 11 percent of the overall conversation.

But Sanders picked up the most followers during the debate. Even though Donald Trump wasn’t debating, he came in second, and Clinton was third when it came to picking up new followers.

Clinton has 5.3 million Twitter followers, while Sanders trails with 1.3 million.

The most-tweeted topic in Thursday night’s #DemDebate was foreign affairs and national security, followed by healthcare and the economy.

The final results of a poll of #DemDebate viewers in which 2,600 people voted was another win for Sanders. Almost half (49 percent) said they were #FeelTheBern voters, and 22 percent favored Clinton by saying #ImWithHer. Another 13 percent said undecided and 16 percent were an “other voter.”
