Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., has not fallen off a cliff with her “Air Claire” mini-scandal, a new PPP poll finds. But she continues to poll dangerously low in a state that has been showing a rightward bent recently.
McCaskill leads one potential opponent, Rep. Todd Akin, R, by a slim 46 to 45 percent. She leads two other potential GOP opponents (former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman and Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer) 45 to 42 percent.

Those are not good numbers for any incumbent, and PPP’s writeup notes that they have the potential to get worse:
The danger for McCaskill is that while she unites Democrats, a lot of Republicans are undecided because, at this early stage, as little as 27% and no more than 48% of voters are aware enough of any one of her opponents to express an opinion on them. If one of them can unite the GOP and capitalize on McCaskill’s vulnerability, she could be in bigger trouble as the election approaches.
