The Barry boys will broadcast tonight’s Maryland game on ESPNU

Rob Stone the ESPNU play by play will have his hands full tonight when he is joined courtside by the duo of Jon and Drew Barry. The crew will broadcast the Miami – Maryland game live at 7p.m. from the Comcast Center. Jon Barry covers the NBA for ESPN and brother Drew is the ESPNU college expert.

This is a onetime deal where the “Barry Boys” will serve as co-color analysts and talking to Jon on the phone yesterday he told me that he is looking forward to doing the game and to watching Garry Williams.

JW: So this is the first time you and your brother have done a game together?

Barry:”Yes. Drew does a package of college games for ESPN and of course I follow the NBA for the network but when we were approached to do this broadcast together I had to say yes. I mean Drew and I have over the years sat on the couch and analyzed hundreds of games. Now we get to do it on ESPNU before a national audience and covering a great ACC game it doesn’t get any better than that.”

JW: So it is Maryland and Miami what interests you the most?

Barry:”Watching Garry Williams coach. He might just be one of the most intense guys coaching today, I mean he is on the officials, keeping his players heads in the game and all the time sweating like he is playing the game himself. I would not want to be his dry cleaner, the guy must go through 30 shirts a season.”

JW: What about the ACC?

Barry:”I played at Georgia Tech and so my roots are in the ACC and to be honest this might just be as balanced that I have seen the league in years. Sure Duke is a Top 10 team but the depth of quality teams this year is fantastic and you would have to list Maryland right up there as a solid contender for the ACC regular season title. But Miami is a gifted team and so we should have a great game tonight.”

Barry also told me that he looking to set up a golf game between him and Williams for Congressional this summer.
