Child nearly drowns, is rescued at Alexandria pool

A six-year-old child nearly drowned at an Alexandria pool today, but was rescued by lifeguards.

The child was found unresponsive at the bottom of a four-foot deep section of Warwick Pool around 1:30 p.m., during a city-sponsored camp. City lifeguards pulled him out and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. By the time emergency crews arrived, the child was breathing.

Officials said the child was responsive and alert while being taken to Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.

The city’s accident review committee is investigating the incident.
