California woman wins $10 million lottery prize after accidentally pushing wrong button

A woman’s luck went from zero to 10 million after she accidentally bought the wrong lottery ticket.

LaQuedra Edwards put $40 into a Lottery Scratchers vending machine in November 2021 when “some rude person” bumped into her, causing her to push the wrong number on the machine and buy a $30 200X Scratchers ticket. Though she was initially annoyed at spending most of her money on a ticket she did not want, she went ahead and scratched the ticket inside her car and discovered she was the winner, the California State Lottery announced Wednesday.

“I didn’t really believe it at first, but I got on the 405 freeway and kept looking down at (the ticket), and I almost crashed my car,” Edwards joked. “I pulled over, looked at it again and again, scanned it with my (California Lottery mobile) app, and I just kept thinking this can’t be right.”

Edwards said she intends to use her cash prize to buy a house and start a nonprofit organization.

The store where Edwards purchased the winning ticket, Vons Supermarket in Los Angeles, also received a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
