N.J. Gov. Chris Christie has finally defended his infamous nonchalant facial appearance while standing behind Donald Trump at a Super Tuesday speech.
The former Republican presidential candidate set the record straight during a Friday interview on NBC’s The Tonight Show after Jimmy Fallon pulled out a cardboard cutout of Christie and set it up behind the governor.
“It’s what you would look like if you were standing behind Jay Leno during his monologue,” Christie said. “If you’re used to talking, it’s awkward not to talk.”
Christie, who endorsed Trump in late February, jokingly added for that reason he would not consider being Trump’s running mate if the Manhattan billionaire businessman went on to win the GOP nomination in July.
Fallon asked Christie if he intended to unsuspend his campaign, but Christie admitted he didn’t sense “a lot of pent-up demand for that.”
The governor’s term will end in 20 months, but he mused over joining Fallon’s Roots band as the tambourine man if no other offers come in before then.
