Conservative commentator Mark Levin slammed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for blaming nursing homes for not rejecting coronavirus patients after Cuomo mandated that the homes admit them.
“Cuomo has blood on his hands and is now attempting to blame the nursing homes,” Levin said. “He’s unleashed law enforcement and his bureaucrats against the nursing homes that begged him not to send coronavirus patients into their residences. But he insisted.”
On March 25, Cuomo issued a directive to nursing homes in the states mandating that they accept residents who had been diagnosed with or are suspected to have had the coronavirus.
“No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the NH solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. NHs are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission,” the mandate reads.

Many nursing homes in the state have reported coronavirus cases, and an NPR analysis found the virus disproportionately affects homes with people of color.
“Whatever reason they want, they call the Department of Health and say, ‘You take Bernadette. I can’t handle her.’ And the Department of Health takes [her]. Now, when the Department of Health takes Bernadette, they no longer get paid for Bernadette. Oh! Money,” Cuomo said.
Levin said Cuomo ought to be held accountable for deaths that occurred in nursing homes following the directive from his administration.
“Cuomo must be investigated and held to account for his deadly fiat,” Levin said.
