NEW YORK (AP) — The scene outside Consolidation Edison’s Manhattan headquarters features a chorus of honking, cheers and whistling that can be heard from a couple of blocks away.
The honking was a show of support Monday by drivers passing about 150 striking workers.
There’s also been an occasional chorus of boos as management workers leave the building.
Many strikers are wearing T-shirts that say: “If we go out, the lights go out.”
The shirts feature a picture of a cracked, yellow lightbulb. It has a red circle around it, and a slash through it.
Talks were suspended early Sunday with both sides saying they remained “far apart” on many issues.
The breakdown comes as New Yorkers endure more hot weather.
