Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA) added ribbon-cutting duties to his visit this week at The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia.
The Governor, who is spending several days with members of his Cabinet and staff, took time out to help The Homestead and Virginia Tourism unveil a newly renovated 3,000-square foot Governor’s Suite as part of the $4 million renovation project at the resort. The suite is made up of a bedroom, parlor, bathroom, and a huge 1,800-square foot porch with a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains.
A picture of the McDonnell family, along with a letter from Governor McDonnell, will be displayed on the wall outside the suite. Speaking about Virginia tourism and the new accommodations, the Governor commented:
“The Homestead Resort is a great example of the economic importance of tourism. This storied resort has employed thousands of people over the years and currently is the county’s largest employer. I’m proud to have these new accommodations dedicated during my term and encourage Virginians to get out and travel the state and support our local tourism businesses.”
There are few places as peaceful and relaxing as The Homestead where hospitality has been a way of life since 1766. It is the largest employer for rural Bath County in western Virginia and an important part of Virginia’s tourism industry that overall generates $19 billion in revenue, $1.2 billion in state and local taxes, and provides over 200,000 jobs.
Alisa Bailey, President and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation, summed it up well:
“The Homestead is a special place that showcases the natural beauty and rich history of Virginia. The resort is one of the hundreds of destinations across Virginia where visitors can completely connect with loved ones on a memorable vacation.”
The Homestead helps define the Commonwealth’s slogan, “Virginia is for lovers.”
