Trump traffic jam shuts down Long Island domestic violence center

A domestic violence refuge center on Long Island was forced to close early Wednesday due to unprecedented traffic levels as law enforcement prepared for a Donald Trump rally set for Wednesday night.

The Safe Center LI, a nonprofit that serves domestic violence and child abuse victims, announced on Facebook midday Wednesday it would be open only a half-day due to police-enforced road closures.

Various protest groups, including NOW Mid-Suffolk Chapter, New York Communities for Change, Planned Parenthood of Nassau County Action Fund and SEIU 1999, have said they will picket outside Gruman Studios, where the rally is being held. About 12,000 people are expected to attend the event.

The rally will be the first in New York for the Republican presidential front-runner, a native of the Big Apple. The New York Republican presidential primary will be April 19. Trump leads the polls in his home state with a 30-point margin, according to the RealClearPolitics average.
