Gov. Asa Hutchinson, R-Ark., scolded the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team on Thursday night for kneeling during the national anthem.
The former congressman retweeted a message criticizing the group of women who took a knee for their actions by reminding them of the service members who have died for those freedoms.
. @AustinKellerman @KARK4News Ladies, here is why you have freedom to behave so disrespectfully. #ungrateful #WhyWeStand pic.twitter.com/eVSWOtcKbh

The women did not state what they were protesting, but it was likely racial issues between law enforcement officers and minority communities. NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers first drew attention to the issue in the preseason when he knelt during the national anthem and continued into the regular season. A few pro-football players have followed suit in the months since, but the move has mostly faded.
