Suspects at large after shot fired during home invasion

Authorities are looking for three people after they broke into a Gaithersburg home early Tuesday morning and fired a gun at a homeowner during a scuffle, according to Montgomery County police officials.

Police spokesman Jimmy Robinson said two residents of a house on State Court woke up at about 4:20 a.m. to the sound of someone breaking into their residence.

The male homeowner discovered three intruders in the home armed with guns.

He scuffled with the intruders and one of them fired, but no one was struck by the bullet. The female resident called 911.

The intruders fled the residence on foot; police officials are not sure whether property was taken from the home.

The 39-year-old male victim was treated and released from an area hospital for minor injuries he sustained during the struggle, according to Robinson.

The 45-year-old female victim was not injured.

The suspects, meanwhile, are only described by police as black males, two of whom had their faces covered.

Robinson said police do not advise victims to engage suspects.

“Protect yourself at all costs,” Robinson said. “You can always replace property, but you can’t replace a life.”
