Republicans launch campaign to #FireReid

The Republican National Committee really wants to #FireReid.

On Tuesday, the RNC announced its #FireReid campaign encouraging voters to elect GOP candidates to the Senate during the midterm elections in order to force Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) out of his Senate Majority Leader position and put a Republican in his place.

“The only way to stop President Obama’s agenda and to get jobs bills out of Congress is to fire Harry Reid. And the way to fire Harry Reid is to support your Republican Senate candidate. It doesn’t matter who the Democrat candidate is. A vote for a Democrat is a vote for Harry Reid.” RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a Tuesday morning statement. “If you’re frustrated by ObamaCare, ready to build the Keystone pipeline, or just tired of the gridlock in the U.S. Senate, there’s a very simple solution: fire Harry Reid.”

Particularly, the Senate under Reid is simply stuck. An RNC memo pointed to the House of Representatives’ passage of around 300 bills that are stalled in the Senate, 40 of which are identified as jobs bills. Reid himself has acknowledged the need for “job creation” to help America’s middle class, yet he has actively prevented such creation in his role as Senate Majority Leader.

The RNC also accuses Reid of poor leadership, perpetuating gridlock, and making hurtful choices on Obamacare and the Keystone XL Pipeline, among other things.

The organization will begin immediately promoting this campaign in Senate races across the United States to drum up voter support for Republican candidates for Senate. The campaign will include robocalls targeting races in Alaska, Iowa, North Carolina, Louisiana, Oregon, Michigan, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Virginia and South Dakota. The calls’ script will highlight stalled Republican jobs bills and the lack of progress on the Keystone pipeline, as well as rising health care costs.

The RNC’s push to #FireReid will also use social media, videos and interviews among other channels to help Republicans overtake the Senate come November and “get America moving in the right direction.”
