Chianese, who is an accomplished singer as well as an actor, brought his classical guitar to town Thursday to entertain supporters of Knock-Out Abuse at its annual sponsor dinner at the Decatur House.
After running through a few American and Italian songs, the 76-year-old actor call for the Philip Martin Project – the jazz combo that played during dinner to come back up and asked the musicians whether they knew the John Fogerty classic. When they said yes, he told the crowd: “So you’re gonna hear Uncle Junior play with the Philip Martin Project!” before tearing into the song.
Chianese also revealed his Washington roots. He said his father was in the construction business and helped build Silver Spring. During that time, the family lived at 11 R St. NE and 113 Rhode Island Ave. NW before moving back to New York, at which point he said he had to stop the “Yes, ma’am, no ma’am stuff” he picked up in Washington’s Catholic schools.
