Cindy Song grew up in South Korea and moved to live with relatives in Springfield as a teenager in 1995, later enrolling in Pennsylvania State University. But in November 2001 — just months before she was scheduled to graduate — the 21-year-old Song disappeared after attending a Halloween party, and hasn’t been seen since.
Song was last seen leaving a downtown State College, Pa., club at about 4 a.m. Nov. 1, 2001. Friends believed she was going back to her apartment. Her friends became concerned when she missed work and didn’t answer her cell phone in the following days.
Over the past nine years, the case has garnered much attention and was featured in a Court TV documentary and on an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries.”
But no leads generated over the years have helped authorities find Song.
Investigators had suspected that Hugo Selenski, a convicted bank robber from central Pennsylvania, could have been involved in Song’s disappearance. Police found several bodies buried in his back yard.
But no evidence has come to light yet that ties Selenski to the Song case, Detective Brian Sprinkle of the Ferguson Township Police Department said this week.
He told the Centre Daily Times last year that everyone close to Song had been ruled out as suspects, and Selenski was the only active lead in the case.
At the time of her disappearance, Song was between 5-foot-1 and 5-foot-3, weighing between 110 and 130 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Ferguson Township Police Department at 814-237-1172.
