Less than an hour after the White House warned Syria against another chemical weapons attack, President Trump sent combative tweets about the Russia investigation and the travel ban case pending before the Supreme Court.
“From @FoxNews “Bombshell: In 2016, Obama dismissed idea that anyone could rig an American election.” Check out his statement – Witch Hunt!,” Trump tweeted Monday night.
Trump was likely referencing a Friday Washington Post report about when former President Barack Obama and his top intelligence officials discovered Russia was attempting to interfere in the 2016 election and the actions that took place after.
Obama was notified of intelligence showing Russia was attempting to meddle in the election in August, and his administration told the public months later because it worried about being perceived as political.
Six minutes after the Russia tweet, Trump sent another cheering the Supreme Court’s decision Monday to allow a limited version of the president’s travel ban to take effect before it rules on the legality of the executive order.
The high court said it would hear the travel ban case during the October term and is allowing the Trump administration to begin blocking travel of people from six Muslim-majority countries named in the executive order.
“Great day for America’s future Security and Safety, courtesy of the U.S. Supreme Court,” Trump said. “I will keep fighting for the American people, & WIN!”

Earlier Monday night, the White House had sent out a statement saying the U.S. has identified “potential preparations” for another chemical weapons attack by the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The White House said the activities are “similar” to preparations the Assad regime made before the Syrian government’s nerve gas attack on civilians in April that led Trump to approve missile strikes against a Syrian airbase.
“As we have previously stated, the United States is in Syria to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria,” the White House said. “If, however, Mr. Assad conducts another mass murder attack using chemical weapons, he and his military will pay a heavy price.”
