Megyn Kelly’s goal for Trump interview: ‘Get it over with and move on’

A highly anticipated interview with Donald Trump airs Tuesday night and Megyn Kelly, the star Fox News anchor who’s conducting the Q&A, is hoping it will clear things up between her and the businessman.

“It’s been a year of security guards and closed blinds,” said Kelly in a new interview with the Associated Press, referring to her long-lasting feud with Trump. “I hope this interview will be a chance to clear the air in front of the American public, to get it over with, then move on.”

Kelly and Trump have had a contentious relationship that played out in public ever since the two met at the first Republican presidential debate last summer.

Trump’s supporters often attacked Kelly online after the candidate accused her of being unfair to him in her coverage. Kelly’s profile benefited from the conflict, but she also said she has feared for her safety.

“I understand that this is not a presidential debate. This is an interview,” she said in the AP interview, indicating that her sit-down with Trump, which was taped, may not be a confrontational affair. “Let me put it this way: I have nothing to prove. I think the American people know I can be plenty tough on any political candidate, and this is not going to be about proving anything to anybody.”

Kelly’s interview with Trump airs in the 8 p.m. hour on Fox.
