Fred Couples
He made the cut at the Memorial last week and was named Presidents Cup captain for the third straight time. Only one of his 15 victories on the PGA Tour was a major. The trend continues on the Champions Tour for Couples, who has seven victories with only one major.
Kenny Perry
He shot a 62 in the final round of the Senior PGA last month. At 7,197 yards, Shoal Creek in Birmingham, Ala., is a muscular venue that favors the long-hitting Perry, who ranks first on the Champions Tour in driving distance (296.5 yards). The 51-year-old is seeking his first major on either tour.
Tom Lehman
The defending champion captured his second senior major last year in a playoff over Peter Senior. Lehman enters in good form after tying for fourth in the Principal Charity Classic. He will play in a power threesome with Couples and Jay Haas, last week’s winner at the Principal.
John Cook
The 54-year-old has 11 PGA wins and eight on the Champions Tour, none of them majors. He was the runner-up in his last two tries, falling to Couples in a playoff at the Senior Players and to Roger Chapman at the Senior PGA. He also lost in playoffs at the 2009 Tradition and 2008 Senior Open.
Kirk Triplett
The longtime PGA Tour grinder is not a big name, but he’s one to watch as he has a window of opportunity as a new player on the Champions Tour. He shot a final-round 62 on Sunday in the Principal Charity Classic to tie for second place in his fourth 50-and-over event.
