The fantasy role-playing series “Dungeon Siege” has finally made its way to the major consoles. The third iteration is a beautiful hack-and-slash adventure that returns to the mystical land of Ehb. After selecting one of four characters — each is a different class, specializing in melee attacks, ranged attacks, nature magic or combat magic — you’ll set off on an adventure sprinkled with action, revenge, plot twists and more. The main character, Lucas Montbarron, is a skilled swordsman, descendant of the hero from “Dungeon Siege” and son of Hugh Montbarron, the former leader of the 10th Legion. He’s joined by Anjali, who can transform into a fire elemental; Reinhart Manx, a Legion mage; and Katarina, the illegitimate daughter of Hugh Montbarron and a witch.
Montbarrron and company set out to rebuild the 10th Legion and defeat the evil Jeyne Kassynder, who had the Legion destroyed. There is tons of loot to collect along the way. And while the all the weapons and armor you pick up help make each character unique, it sometimes feels like the only reason it’s there is to sell it to some merchant for a bit of coin.
The skill customization is where this game truly stands out. After unlocking an ability, it can be further specialized. On top of that, there are additional points to be spent on talents, which are passive improvements to each character. This means that you can morph each member of the party to suit your style of play.

“Dungeon Siege III” may come across as a bit too challenging for those who are new to the series. Having to go through the same boss fight repeatedly because of cheap shots is a quick way to make a gamer overly frustrated and want to quit. On top of that, the game suffers from poor camera angles, which make it hard to keep track of bad guys in larger areas.
However, the stunning graphics and voice acting of “Dungeon Siege III” do make up for some of the flaws.
If hack-and-slash lootfests are your thing, this isn’t one to be missed. Otherwise, rent it first.
