Extension coming for ACC coach of the year?

Shortly after he was named ACC coach of the year on Tuesday, Virginia coach Mike London said that he has been in touch with the university, regarding a contract extension. He hinted that negotiations were going well.

“I’ve made contact with the administrators here. We are talking about putting something together that could keep me here for a while,” London said via teleconference. “That conversation has taken place and hopefully in the next couple days or weeks there will be something to talk about.”

London, who has guided the Cavaliers to an 8-4 record and first bowl appearance in four years, makes $1.7 million per year on a five-year contract that runs through 2014. Early this month, Penn State reportedly attempted to gauge London’s interest in taking over the Nittany Lions. He denied the report, saying that he had not spoken with the school.

“I’m hoping I’ll be here for a long while,” London said.
