Breaking: Building on fire in downtown DC

Eyewitnesses report through twitter that a building is on fire in downtown DC. The building is reportedly located at 14 and I and heavy smoke is rising from the roof and several firetrucks are on the scene.

The DC Fire and EMS,  Twitter account released the following statement: – 1401 I St NW – cooling tower.HVAC on roof on fire – bulk of fire knocked – no inj – checking extension – bldg evacuated

UPDATE: According to D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire, which broke out around 10:30 a.m., was centralized in a cooling tower on the roof of the Franklin Tower. A bulk of the fire has now been knocked down. No injuries have been reported, but the building was evacuated.
