Holder contempt votes passes Oversight Committee

The measure to cite Attorney General Eric Holder for contempt of Congress just passed through the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on a party line vote.

“A contempt report is ordered reported to the House,” chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said after the proposal passed 23-17.

Democrats argued throughout the day that Issa was pushing a partisan investigation into Operation Fast and Furious, while Republicans noted that the Justice Department had ignored a subpoena for eight months that it needed to investigate the gun-walking scheme that resulted in the death of a U.S. border patrol agent.

The Committee voted that President Obama’s assertion of executive privilege over the subpoenaed documents was not valid in this case.
