UK lowers terror threat level from ‘critical’ to ‘imminent’ in aftermath of Manchester attack

The United Kingdom’s terror threat level was lowered from its highest level, “critical” to “imminent” on Saturday.

British Prime Minister Theresa May announced the change, meaning that the country is on alert for a very likely attack, BBC reports. She made the call following a flurry of police activity in the past 24 hours.

The change to “critical” was made at the recommendation of the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre, under MI-5, after a bomb was detonated by 22-year-old Salman Abedi at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester on Monday, killing 22 people and injuring many others.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said after May’s announcement that his city’s security plans will remain in place over the weekend.
