Danville police said Evan Bryce Schuler, 23, was riding in a patrol when the cruiser stopped at a gas station near the North Carolina border. A police officer testified that Schuler saw an opossum run along the fence, then he jumped out of the car and “started stomping,” the Danville Register & Bee reported. Schuler’s lawyer said his behavior was “instinctive” because he lives on a farm and opossums kill his chickens.
