Friend of San Bernardino shooters pleads not guilty

The friend and neighbor of deceased San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook has plead not guilty in a California court to the charge of buying weapons for Farook and his wife.

Enrique Marquez, 24, is accused of buying two rifles for Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, that were used in the Dec. 2 shootings that killed 14 people.

Farook and Marquez grew up next door to each other in Riverside, California. Farook is also alleged to have introduced Marquez to Islam, and then later to radicalized violence.

Marquez is not accused of having participated in the planning of the shootings, but authorities argue he bought weapons under his name that were meant for Farook. Marquez is also accused of planning other attacks with Farook.

Prosecutors argue that Marquez purchased the weapons for Farook because Farook had concerns that his Middle Eastern identity could flag him for additional screening when purchasing firearms, NBC Los Angeles reported.
