The State Department could approve the permit to build the Keystone XL pipeline as soon as Monday, according to the company building the project.
TransCanada re-submitted its permit application with the State Department on Jan. 26 to build the segment of the nearly 1,200-mile crude oil pipeline that crosses the border from Canada. A company spokesman said they anticipate approval as the end of President Trump’s deadline for approving the project draws to a close early next week or sooner.
“We do anticipate a decision by the State Department during the 60 days they have been given,” Terry Cunha, spokesman for TransCanada, told the Washington Examiner. “At the moment, we continue to work with the administration on our presidential permit application.”
The 60-day deadline that Trump outlined in his January executive order to expedite approval of the pipeline could come sooner than Monday, based on the deadline.
