Thinking about going to Sunfest in Ocean City this weekend? You might want to make plans for some extra travel time if you stay too late.
The eastbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge will close temporarily during overnight hours throughout the weekend.
Kelly Melhelm, a spokesperson for the Maryland Transportation Authority said the spans will reopen each day to morning traffic so commuters won’t be affected.
Lane restrictions will be in place from 11 p.m. tonight until 7 a.m. Saturday; from 10 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday; and from 10 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday.
“The times we are doing the closures, we have selected those to accommodate commuter traffic and the traffic due to the NASCAR races in Dover, Del., and Sunfest in Ocean City,” said Melhelm.
Veronica Donaldson, advertising and marketing manager for Ocean City’s special events, said the bridge work hasn’t impacted attendance since the festival started on Thursday.
“I would say 80 percent (attendees) are from across the Bay Bridge,” said Donaldson. “Especially with the weather going for us this year, it is beautiful here, and they are coming. They don’t want summer to end.”
