Just making the rounds

Like any smart player, Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo knew it wise to point out that his coach was in attendance. So before his golf tournament to benefit leukemia at Trump National in Potomac Falls, Va., Orakpo did just that.

Then Mike Shanahan popped up and shouted, “I can’t talk to you Rak!”

Orakpo: “Oh yeah.”

For the record, the Redskins officials were able to attend because it was a charity event arranged before the lockout. Yes, a bit awkward.

Meanwhile, Orakpo’s tournament was about … finding out what players have been doing now that they can’t hang out at Redskins Park. Some players weren’t that interesting. DeAngelo Hall‘s new thing is back-squatting. That’s a hobby?

“It is when it’s me because I don’t lift at all,” he said.

Rocky McIntosh » The tough, physical, hard-hitting linebacker (and potential free agent) is … taking Latin Fusion dance classes with his wife. They’ve learned the rumba, salsa and merengue. Don’t expect a new sack dance; McIntosh is not a pass-rusher (two career sacks).

And he’s focusing more on landscaping.

“I love the grass. I love the trees, shrubbery, flowers, just going out there,” he said.

Anthony Armstrong » He’s learning the acoustic guitar and daydreaming about baseball. One is serious; the other is not. His go-to song for now? “No Woman, No Cry.”

As for baseball: “I’m trying to take batting practice with the Nationals. I heard they need a leadoff hitter. I figure if I can get on base I can steal.”

And the last time he played? How about never.

Julio Franco played until he was 56. If I could be a 27-year old rookie in the NFL, I could be a 30-year old rookie in Major League Baseball,” he said.

Kedric Golston » While waiting to hear whether he’s an unrestricted free agent, he’s learning more about selling real estate (his wife owns a real estate company) and helping coach a 10-11-year-old flag football team with his neighbor in the NFL Flag Football program in Ashburn. They’re 2-1.

“We call plays, and they do what they want to do,” he said.

Sounds a lot like a potential former defensive linemate of his.
