Co-host of “The View” Rosie O’Donnell piggybacked on supermodel Chrissy Teigen’s controversial statements after the shooting of a Canadian soldier this week, using it as a segue to espouse her own beliefs on gun control.
Fellow host and former Republican operative Nicole Wallace began the segment by noting how quickly people start to bring up politics after tragic shootings.
“We go so fast to the debates, we got so fast to the politics. A dad died, a dad with a young son,” Wallace said.
O’Donnell, of course, ignored that sentiment and jumped straight into politics.
“And now with Twitter, Chrissy Teigen, who is a supermodel as you all know, she is sort of getting slammed for her comments because she put a tweet up about the attack that said, ‘Active shooting in Canada, or as we call it in America, Wednesday,'” she said.
“I thought it was brilliant and on point but some people thought it was insensitive.”
While some of her co-hosts tried to point out that it was the timing and ties to terrorism that made that tweet so inappropriate, O’Donnell blew them off.
“I get it. But 86 people a day are killed in America with guns,” O’Donnell said. “And you know what, that is terrorism here… I think she’s saying ‘I’m an American, I live here.’ I see two people shot this week in Canada and the entire country of Canada is in mourning. However, in America this happens on a daily basis and we don’t even pay attention any more.”
