Rhee’s decision at Dunbar High School reversed by interim chancellor

The temporary D.C. schools chief installed after Michelle Rhee resigned has fired the private company Rhee hired at Dunbar High School, amid reports of gang rapes and Interim Chancellor Kaya Henderson’s own sightings of students roaming the halls.

Henderson reinstated Dunbar’s previous principal, Stephen Jackson. The Washington Post reports that, “Henderson said last week that the school took a turn for the worse when Jackson was removed.”

In a prepared statement, Henderson said Wednesday evening that the decision was “designed to strengthen nearly all aspects of the [sic] Dunbar’s operations, including but not limited to security, facilities, student behavior, teacher support and community engagement.”

Brooklyn company Friends of Bedford will continue to manage Coolidge Senior High School, Henderson said.

Last month, six students were charged with raping a 15-year-old female student in a school stairwell. The charges were later dropped.
