Haslem needs encore performances

When everyone is done with rightfully congratulating Udonis Haslem for the most talked about 13-point, five-rebound comeback performance in the NBA this season, could someone make sure Haslem realizes that he’ll need to be just as good in every game from here on out.

The Heat had five months to figure out how to replace the effort, energy and defense that Haslem brings to every game, but that would’ve been too difficult.

Instead, Miami coach Erik Spoelstra is going to look at himself in the mirror, and at his bench, and realize he’s got to take a chance on a guy that was utterly gassed by 23 minutes on Wednesday. Haslem won’t get a three-day break after Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, with games taking place every other night from then on.

That said, Haslem’s return can’t help but instill fear in Chicago — Dallas and Oklahoma City, too — and it’s even scarier to imagine what the Heat would’ve done in the regular season if he hadn’t been injured in the first place.
