Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan ridiculed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Sunshine State’s Parental Rights in Education Act, calling it “absurd” while admitting he never read the legislation.
“I didn’t really actually see the details of the legislation, but the whole thing seems like a crazy fight,” Hogan said. “And now [DeSantis] wants to criticize Disney for expressing how they feel about that bill. I mean, they have every right to. We have a thing called freedom of speech. They can come out and say what they think.”
When asked about Florida’s legislation Sunday during an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, Hogan told host Dana Bash that the bill would not have passed in his state.
“I think the bill was kind of absurd and not something that would’ve happened in our state,” Hogan said.

In response to the criticism, people are blasting Hogan on social media for not tending to his own state’s needs.
“What type of ‘leader’ comments on another state’s bill without first reading it?” Laura Corriss tweeted. “Mind your own business.”
One Facebook user blasted Hogan, saying, “You are part of the problem.”
One Twitter user called on Hogan to take cues from DeSantis for how to run his state.
“Hey Lockdown Larry… How about actually reading the bill before commenting?” Mat Dubinett wrote. “Focus on your own state’s shabby conditions — perhaps take cues from Florida which far outpaces MD on so many fronts.
