Twitter says ‘bug’ prevented users from searching Lincoln Project as sexual misconduct allegations swirled

Twitter says a “bug” was to blame for users being unable to search the term “Lincoln Project” on Saturday after the organization was hit with a scandal surrounding one of its leaders.

“This was a bug that was fixed yesterday,” a Twitter spokesperson told the Daily Caller after users were unable to search for the Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump political organization whose co-founder left the PAC after sexual harassment allegations.

Co-founder John Weaver apologized Friday for inappropriate communications he had with a long list of young men and stepped down from the organization.

“To the men I made uncomfortable through my messages that I viewed as consensual mutual conversations at the time: I am truly sorry,” Weaver said. “They were inappropriate and it was because of my failings that this discomfort was brought on you.”

“The truth is that I’m gay,” he added. “And that I have a wife and two kids who I love. My inability to reconcile those two truths has led to this agonizing place.”

Earlier this month, conservative writer Ryan Girdusky broke the story on the allegations of misconduct against Weaver, revealing that several young men had sent him screenshots showing predatory behavior.

Twitter did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment as to why the “bug” seemed to be an issue after news of the scandal broke.
