Former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Mike Rogers says there’s some confusion about who is reporting to whom in President-elect Trump’s transition team.
In an interview with CNN Tuesday night, Rogers said he wasn’t upset at leaving the transition team and the timing was right for him to leave. However, his comments revealed some dissension in the ranks of Trump’s team.
“There is some confusion going on about a chain of command coming out of New York,” he said. “Hopefully, they’ll get that settled pretty soon and they need to do it, because as the clock ticks all of these decisions become more important.”
Rogers was serving as a national security adviser to the Trump transition team for months but was ousted Tuesday in a surprise announcement. Reports indicated Rogers’ departure was forced and the transition team was getting rid of people brought in by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie when he was leading the transition.
Rogers urged the transition team to start making more decisions quickly in order to get the administration set up in time for Jan. 20.
“You have to make them sooner, with a little more authority and a little more forward thinking, to make sure they don’t bump into anything in the future,” Rogers said.
He added he’s confident the Trump camp will get its legs underneath it and have a more efficient process soon.
“They’re going to get there and I’m an optimist about that,” he said.
