Primus founder rocks Rams Head
Singer and bassist Les Claypool hits the stage at Rams Head Live in Baltimore on Wednesday. The former Primus front man has toured to promote Fancy, his first solo live concert DVD from his 2006 summer tour with his latest band. The tour supported his last solo CD release, called “Of Whales and Woe.” Claypool will be joined by Skerik on sax, Mike Dillon on vibes, marimba and percussion, Cake drummer Paolo Baldi and multi-instrumentalist Gabby.

Port Discovery gets kids digging
Try out your green thumb at Port Discovery?s latest exhibit, A Garden of Gizmos, which opened on May 25. The theme of the exhibit encompasses several different environmental messages, including conservation, preservation, biodiversity, solar energy, growth patterns and more. The exhibit includes several interactive activities for both kids and adults. On the Date Palm Boogie, visitors can dance on a tilting platform while three trees sway and dance along. “Sprouts” is a time-lapse movie which shows a variety of plants growing in a big window box. Howard County gets artistic
The talents of Columbia photographer Joan Forester and potter Winnie Coggins will be displayed through June 29 at the Artists? Gallery in Columbia. The exhibit is titled Fire and Light, and explores the simplifications of form. Forester, a wet darkroom photographer, takes still life and landscape pictures, while Coggins focuses on large-scale sculptural vessels. The gallery is open 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call 410-740-8249.
It?s Bawlmer, hon
Filled with multicolored spandex, blue eyeshadow and beehive hairdos, HonFest is a celebration of all things “Bawlmer.” The festival, which is located on the Avenue in Hampden, attracted more than 30,000 guests last year. Local ladies compete for the coveted title of “Best Hon,” visitors listen to live local music and can check out the work of local artists. The event takes place on June 9 and 10. Art in unusual places
The Parks and People Foundation?s Art on the Trail event features innovative artistic creations from more than 20 artists in a natural setting along the Gwynns Falls Trail.
