Big Tech’s ‘days are numbered’: GETTR expands platform with DMs for July 4

EXCLUSIVE — Social media platform GETTR is adding direct messaging to its platform as it celebrates its one-year anniversary on Independence Day.

In its first year, GETTR reported nearly 6 million users in 192 different countries, numbers its leader says send a message to the technology community.

“Right now, Big Tech has a total monopoly over how people communicate online,” GETTR CEO Jason Miller told the Washington Examiner. “Silicon Valley is officially on notice: Your days are numbered.”

Come Monday, GETTR will add direct messaging to its capabilities, which include livestreaming and short video technology, giving the platform more features seen in competitors.

“I think GETTR is leading the pack and is cementing its position as the leading alternative platform to take on Big Tech,” Miller said.

Miller said GETTR’s new direct messaging will take on WhatsApp and “allow people to communicate outside the grasps of Big Tech bullies.”

“I think we’re at an interesting point in history where these Silicon Valley giants are finally waking up to the fact they aren’t immortal,” Miller added. “My prediction is that the social media industry will continue to decentralize as people look for platforms outside of Silicon Valley that foster the sharing of information and diverse opinion.”

GETTR is available on web, iOs, and Android. It stands as one of a handful of Twitter alternatives that emerged after former President Donald Trump was banned from that platform after the Capitol riot. Truth Social, Trump’s new social media platform, has reportedly reached around 2 million monthly active users since it got running in February.

“We absolutely welcome President Trump’s entry to the alternative platform space and think it’s a good thing that multiple platforms are challenging the Silicon Valley monopoly,” said Miller, a former Trump senior adviser.
