Can you hear me now?

Fear not, Washingtonians: Your precious BlackBerrys will still work on Inauguration Day … that is, if you believe Sprint.

The telecommunications company took to the National Press Club on Tuesday morning to assure folks that cell phone reception won’t go down when roughly 4 million people descend on Washington in January.

“We are certain that the worst problems may be some sending delays, but not blocked calls,” said Bill Toth, Sprint’s vice president for field engineering and operations in the Northeast Region.

Well, we’ll believe it when we see it, although Sprint does have some experience in handling Obama-mania: The company stepped up its operations at the Democratic National Convention in Denver and at Chicago’s Grant Park on election night.
