WATCH: 7-year-old writes letters to lift spirits of firefighters after three die Monday

Seven-year-old Keagan Parham of Baltimore is being hailed after sending cards to the firefighters of Engine 14 in an effort to show his appreciation and lift their spirits.

The Monday deaths of three firefighters were the inspiration for the cards, according to the child’s mother.

“He was like, ‘I can’t sleep.’ He said, ‘You know those firefighters who lost their lives?’ I said, ‘Yeah. It’s very sad.’ He said, ‘I know. I just can’t go back to sleep, and I decided to make them some cards,’ and I said come back in a couple of hours and tell me about them because I wanted to go back to sleep,” Jasmine Watson-El, Parham’s mother, said.

Hours later, Parham returned and shocked his mother with what he had made.

“I was like look at all of the details that you put into the cards,” she said. “It was like you were there at the fire scene.”

Parham’s class learned that three firefighters had died after they were trapped Monday in a burning home, he said.

He made the cards for those firefighters and those still saving lives.

“I would say to them I made it with my heart and nothing else,” Parham said.

“So, I started making cards. If you want to see this you can. This is a burning house that’s on fire, the fire truck, and a fireman,” he said, describing one.

Parham admired firefighters and said he remembered meeting some at school.

“They were really nice. They were happy to see me and happy to see children like me get a chance to take pictures with them up close and pretty much all of that,” he said.

He hopes the cards will lift the spirits of Engine 14.

“I hope they feel better if I give these cards to them in action, and I wish they feel good and not feel sad,” he said.
