Trump loyalists, many of whom have supported him since the day he came down that escalator in Trump Tower, were sorely disappointed on Thursday when President Trump took military action against Syria. The U.S. launched 59 Tomahawk missiles into Syria in response to a chemical weapons attack the Assad regime launched on their own people.
During the campaign, Trump promised he’d be one of the most non-interventionist presidents in decades. Even before he was a candidate, Trump’s non-interventionist streak was showing when he condemned then-President Obama for trying to attack Syria in 2013.

How bad has our “leader” made us look on Syria. Stay out of Syria, we don’t have the leadership to win wars or even strategize.

If Obama attacks Syria and innocent civilians are hurt and killed, he and the U.S. will look very bad!

His die-hard supporters who believed in the “America First” platform were deeply upset about his flip-flopping on the issue.
Being pro-American first means you’re against wars that goes against America’s interests. #NoSyriaWar

Toppling a secular government and opening the gates of hell for ISIS to take over the Middle East is my “red line”.
Stop this catastrophe.

Trump campaigned on not getting involved in Mideast. Said it always helps our enemies & creates more refugees. Then he saw a picture on TV.

No sane person wants WWIII w/ Syria, & no one wants their home flooded with raping refugees. Yet we have no say in either of these things.

Daily Caller writer Scott Greer put it the best, that non-interventionism was a necessary element in the “American First” philosophy. The attack in Syria was separating principled Trumpists from Trump shills.
Syria is dividing the Trumpists from the Trump shills

Trumpists support the positions Trump staked out during the campaign and want them enacted. The shills blindly support whatever he does
— Scott Greer (@ScottMGreer) April 7, 2017
Non-interventionism is integral to Trumpism, thus the intense division tonight. The shills don’t care about it, the Trumpists do

Similar situation could happen if Trump decided to pass amnesty. Shills would love it, Trumpists would oppose

Tonight was a bad move on Trump’s part. However, it was not a call for total blackpilling on his presidency yet.

Loyalists to the President have been very disappointed over the last few weeks as it seems that the establishment wing of the administration is taking over. Only time will tell if he gets back on message.
