‘It’s pathetic’: Series of ATMs ‘blown apart’ during Philadelphia riots

A number of ATMs were “blown apart” amid the looting and rioting that stretched into a second night throughout Philadelphia following the fatal police shooting of a black man on Monday.

Police reports from Monday and Tuesday detail a series of late-night explosions at ATMs in the city as law enforcement grappled with thousands of demonstrators, some of whom became destructive as the nights wore on.

“After 11 ATMs blown apart Monday into Tuesday, 7 more ATMs were blown apart Last night & overnight,” Fox Philadelphia’s Steve Keeley reported on Wednesday morning.

The Philadelphia Bomb Squad was called in, and police are investigating but confirmed that several ATMs lost no money because the people responsible for the damage were unable to reach the machines’ cashboxes.

“It’s pathetic. It’s pathetic. It really is,” longtime Philadelphia resident Rene Brown told ABC6.

Two days of unrest befell Philadelphia after the recorded shooting death of 24-year old Walter Wallace Jr., who was shot 14 times by police once he resisted arrest and approached the officers with a knife.

The Pennsylvania National Guard assembled members to assist in putting down the series of destructive riots that have stretched throughout at least seven city districts. Videos from the city have shown hundreds of people looting goods at a number of businesses and facing off with police officers.
